Every Child has the right:
- To be loved
- To feel safe and
- To have a home
Unfortunately, many Mauritian children never
experienced a mother's tenderness, do not know how it feels to be
cherished, do not have regular meals or have never felt the security
of family and a home. |
 |
SOS Children's Villages Mauritius came to the rescue of
many of these children. An SOS village was
opened in 1992 in Mare Gravier, Beau Bassin, Mauritius.
In December 2003, a second village was opened in Bambous, Mauritius a poorer area on the west side of the island of
Mauritius. |

|
We care for 147 kids and youths in Beau Bassin and Bambous. In
addition, we care 241 kids in our SOS kindergartens.
Every house has a foster mother and the village is run by
a Village Manager. Youth facilities are run by a Youth Leader Girl and
Youth leader Boy. |
|
Core facilities in Bambous include:
12 family houses for 120 kids & youths, kindergarten for 84 kids,
polyvalent hall / training centre, community block, 3 remedial
education classes, 1 volley ball pitch. |
|
We also run a prevention of Child Abandonment Program. Currently, 91
children are benefiting from this program. The aim is to extend this
program to 150 children by the end of 2005. Cost per beneficiary is
around $23 Aus. |

How can you help: |
- By sponsoring one or two children (Rs 1,500 Mu
per month for 1 child). You will then become a godfather or godmother
to the child;
- By contributing to the running costs of our two
villages by making yearly, monthly or ah hoc donations of you own
amount (starting from $10 Aus);
- Mainly for clubs:
By organising a fund raising activity (like dances, soccer
competition, etc) during which more information on SOS Village
Mauritius can be made available. The proceeds of the activity minus
costs can then be transferred to SOS Village Mauritius.
